The University of Bristol Law School is a leading UK law school with an international reputation for outstanding teaching and research. Ranked 5th on research intensity in REF2014, the law school is home to a diverse and inclusive academic community which aspires to the highest standards in legal education and research. Housed in the iconic Wills Memorial Building with additional elegant premises close by in Berkeley Square, the University of Bristol Law School represents a unique blend of tradition and innovation, offering an educational experience which challenges and empowers students and a research and scholarship environment in which academic originality and excellence flourish.

The University of Bristol Law School seeks to recruit Lecturers in Law who combine strong research potential with a commitment to the highest standards of legal education to join our thriving academic environment. The school embraces excellence in all its forms and wishes to recruit individuals able to contribute to teaching of core units in the area of public law and demonstrate research specialism in international dispute settlement and international investment law.

The posts are located on Pathway One and will be appointed at either Profile Level b (Lecturer, grade J) and/or Profile level c (Lecturer, grade K) of the University's Academic Pathways, depending on the relevant experience, skills and knowledge of the successful candidates. A Recruitment and Retention Supplement may be applied to an offer on the basis of demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and it is entirely at the discretion of the University.

You should have a completed PhD or equivalent in law (or for appointment at grade J, to be close to completion by the post start date) and have a strong honours degree at undergraduate level or equivalent in law or a law-related subject. You should also have demonstrable ability to produce excellent research leading to publications of 3* or 4* quality by REF2014 standards; and a planned trajectory of high quality publications over a significant period. It is also essential to have demonstrable experience of successful teaching or tutoring at university level or equivalent; proven experience of teaching law at university level; demonstrable commitment to a strong and supportive teaching and learning environment; and excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and accessibly.

The posts are open ended and available from 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The posts are full time, however the School is open to requests for working part time/job share.

The closing date for applications is midnight on 7th August 2019. It is expected that the final selection process will be held as soon as possible following the closing date.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Ken Oliphant, Head of School, University of Bristol Law School (e-mail: hos-law@bristol.ac.uk or tel: +44 (0)117 954 5347).
