Assistant Lecturer / Instructor - School of Nursing and Midwifery

The Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) in Kenya and East Africa is a vibrant academic community dedicated to the provision of transformational learning, teaching and research that makes a leading contribution to improving the health and well-being of communities. Teaching faculty are all engaged in active clinical practice, research, and professional leadership with a specialty focus on delivery of upgrade programmes for working nurses and midwives. The school is recruiting Assistant Lecturers who will be based at SONAM's campus in Nairobi, Kenya, reporting to the Academic head.

The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching Diploma and Undergraduate courses, participate in research work and ensure professional /academic productivity within the School.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses on the diploma and undergraduate programmes taught, as allocated
• Actively contribute in the body of nursing knowledge through research and publication
• Actively engage in clinical practice
• •Maintain own continuing professional development
• Counselling and support for students
• Contribute to the administration of academic programmes offered by SONAM Requirements• Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree from recognized/accredited university.
• Must be registered for a PhD programme or equivalent Doctoral programme.
• At least two (2) years in clinical practice in a hospital set up.
• Previous teaching experience at University level is an added advantage.
• Registered or eligibility for registration by the relevant professional body.
• Must meet the CUE appointment requirements for Lecturer or above.
• Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrates counseling skills.

Applicants must have credentials commensurate with appointment at the level of Assistant Lecturer with a strong academic research background and demonstrated experience in teaching, learning and communicating. Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) is essential.
