The University of Queensland Biological Resources Unit (UQBR) manages the laboratory animal production and research facilities for the University of Queensland.

The role of UQBR is to provide UQ with world class Animal Research services within a best practice ethical framework.

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this role is to provide high quality care and maintenance of laboratory teaching and research animals within the University of Queensland Biological Resources Animal Facilities. This position is to provide high level of responsibility in a significant administrative support and supervisory role, and expected to give major support to the Manager of the facility to cover a variety of duties.

This position will involve a high level of responsibility and the ability to work independently.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus , renowned as one of Australia's most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane's city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment - you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role you must have experience in GM rodent colony management and knowledge in all aspects of animal facilities day-to-day operations and administrative requirements. This includes an understanding of laboratory animal care and regulatory requirements with experience supervising staff, and specialist reproductive or surgical techniques. The care of genetically modified animals would also be well regarded. You will exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organisational skills.

Medical Clearance:

Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, maternity leave position, until September 2020 at HEW Level 5.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $67,608 - $75,506, plus super of up to 9.5% and recreation leave loading of 17.5%.
