Job Details

We are seeking a researcher to work on the CRoss-modal Intervention To Improve Cyclist Awareness Levels (CRITICAL) project.

Cyclists are disproportionately represented in accident statistics; for every 26 car drivers killed or seriously injured per billion vehicle miles, 1,011 pedal cyclists are killed or seriously injured. The CRITICAL project will develop and evaluate a cross-modal training program to improve cycling safety. The project will train car drivers to interact with cyclists and cyclists to interact with car drivers. This will enable both road users to understand risky behaviours and develop higher levels of awareness for the other road user. At the end of the project, two cross-modal training programmes will have been developed and longitudinally evaluated to understand the resilience of the training interventions. The overall aim is to enhance safety between two road user groups that have traditionally resulted in a high proportion of accidents. This will be achieved by the development of empirically validated training programmes from an experienced project team.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and/or experience in Human Factors or a related discipline (e.g. Psychology, Ergonomics) and experience in human factors and ergonomics, naturalistic and simulator data collection and analysis and the ability to work effectively with a research team.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The post is fixed-term until 31/03/2021 due to funding restrictions.
