Technician in Immuno-oncology Bioinformatics and Transcriptomics - Cancer Sciences

Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Faculty of Medicine (Cancer Sciences) for a technician focused on immuno-oncology bioinformatics and transcriptomics in the laboratories of Professor Christian Ottensmeier and Dr Tilman Sanchez-Elsner. The main goals will be to learn to predict the anti-tumour immune response in lung cancer patients from knowledge derived from transcriptomics of T-Cells, NK cells, B-Cells and Macrophages. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of researchers with existing data to enable immediate analysis. This post will work closely with bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, clinicians, and other collaborators to better understand how tumour immune cells determine responses to existing therapies and the efficacy of immunotherapy.

We are seeking a technician primarily in the area of bioinformatics but with a strong understanding of transcriptomics analysis and machine learning. The ideal candidate will have experience in an area such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, or computational biology, or from a cross-disciplinary program that included one of these areas of study. Essential skills required for this position include proficiency in a Unix/Linux environment and a statistical package (e.g. R or Matlab), as well as an additional programming language (e.g., python, perl, C++, etc). Individuals with experience in any of these additional areas are strongly encouraged to apply: proteomics (labeled or label-free), transcriptomics (e.g. microarray and RNA-Seq), cancer biology, immunology, predictive modelling and machine learning.

This is a fixed-term appointment from August 2019 for 1 year in the first instance. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The University of Southampton offers benefits associated with national insurance and pension payments.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Tilman Sanchez-Elsner ( T.Sanchez-Elsner@soton.ac.uk ).
