Neurophysiology Services utilizes state-of-the-art equipment to perform tests that aid in diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, neuromuscular junctions and muscles. Our technologists work with consultant neurologists and are qualified to analyze data to make certain that the information being obtained is valid and interpretable.
The department is responsible for electro-diagnostic services to patients with neurological complaints and diseases affecting the nervous system. The procedures aid in diagnosis and monitoring neurological disease processes and treatment efficacy. In addition, the department also educates technologists and young physicians.ResponsibilitiesThe focus of the course is to develop technologists with knowledge, skills and attitude in Neurophysiology (NP) diagnostic procedures and patient care. This program is a 24 month comprehensive training encompassing all aspects of Neurophysiology training program including patient safety. Our comprehensive selection process ensures that students accepted into AKUH-NP are a great fit from day one
The curriculum includes general basic anatomy, with special emphasis on neuroanatomy, neurophysiology and clinical neurology, basic electronics including basic instrumentation, normal and abnormal waveform identification, maturation of the nervous system (structural and electrophysiological), artifact recognition, montage design, characteristics of sleep patterns and seizure and cardio-pulmonary crisis recognition, record review and patient care.
This program is for individuals who enjoy interacting directly with patients in a hospital environment, thrive on using analytical thinking skills, and willing to work hard and shift duties This program will benefit selected trainees by providing:

- regionally recognized certification upon successful completion and recognized by the American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET)
- certificate of attendance from AKU - Karachi, Department of Neurophysiology

Requirements
Eligible candidates should have:
- minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology/Neurophysiology, previous health care experience will be beneficial
- good command of English language, both written and verbal
- computer skills will be an asset
- willingness to learn new interventions
