De Montfort University (DMU) is a unique institution: ambitious, globally-minded and determined to give students a sector-leading experience. Our Gold award in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is testament to our consistently outstanding teaching and learning excellence. This is an outstanding opportunity to build your existing leadership skills and to lead a school of Computer Science specialists.
Faculty / Directorate
The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM) is home to three specialist schools: the School of Computer Science and Informatics, the School of Engineering and Sustainable Development, and the Leicester Media School. While each School has a distinct identity, together they present a unique, compelling and important critical understanding on the future role of technology in modern life.

Courses are taught in professional facilities equipped with cutting-edge technology. We aim to deliver a global curriculum that enhances the international perspective and cultural awareness of our graduates, while supporting employability and sustainability. A key initiative currently is the embedding of sustainability (and other UN Sustainable Development Goals) into our curriculum.

The School of Computer Science and Informatics offers a wide range of courses to other undergraduates and postgraduates in line with emergent demand and the nature of these fast-moving, competitive disciplines. We have a solid track record of ground-breaking research and in REF2014, nearly 60% of the School's research was considered to be world leading or internationally excellent. As a subject Computer Science is ranked 202 /500 in the Shanghai Ranking of Universities as well as 217 in THE World University Rankings. Alongside the university as a whole, we have huge ambitions for the future in terms of our offering to students and the quality and scale of our research. In addition to this the School was recently recognised for an ACE award.

Role
As a key member of the Faculty Management Team, you will provide strategic research and academic leadership within the School through effective strategic planning, operational management and leading by example.

Building on the School's strengths and reputation, to strategically lead a group of highly regarded academics in further enhancing and developing the School's teaching, research and commercial profile.

Interviews to be held on Monday 16th September 2019.

Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a proven academic leader whose ambition matches ours.

As Head of School you will provide exceptional leadership across these activities. With a background in a relevant discipline and your proven track record of research, publications and professional excellence, you will be ambitious for the future of the School and will have the leadership and managerial skills to deliver further success. Integral to this will be a natural passion for teaching and learning plus the ability to galvanise research staff to ensure they work collaboratively amongst themselves and with other parts of the university through your excellent planning to drive change.
