Lead Developer (Full Stack, PHP, Symfony, React)

Reporting to the CIO, you will be responsible for maintaining the front-end and back-end systems, driving the transition of the front-end website on to the Shopify Plus platform, and building new back-end reporting and operational systems.

You will:

• Primarily be coding. You will be coding new tools and features for the main website and back-office system, using a variety of tools and languages including Symfony, React, PHP and JavaScript.
• Represent the Tech team and resource within Firebox, working with other departments to find the best path for executing on our priorities
• Ideally be comfortable running the entire technical stack from front-end to server-side.
• Have a passion for Open Source technologies and enjoy making scalable and innovative solutions.
• Own or influence the technology decision making process, working closely with the CIO, technical team, and other key people.
• Work with the CIO to help deliver on Tech projects and help communicate to the rest of Firebox
• Help the Operations and Marketing teams to define and deliver on commercial priorities.
• Make sure the code is of a high quality and secure.
• Be creative and driven!

Skills required:

• Excellent coding skills. We're predominantly using Symfony, JavaScript and React on the front end, and PHP on the back end, so you'll need those skills unless you're a very quick learner
• Fluent in a dynamic scripting language with solid experience of object oriented design
• SQL experience (MySQL or Postgres)
• Highly proficient with HTML5/JS/CSS
• A healthy interest (not too healthy) in Linux System Administration (used by our backend)
• Discipline of using a VCS (we use Git) in a team environment
• Empathy for the end user, and a feel for good UX
• You can inspire team members, and lead by example
• Other technologies we use (nice-to-have skills) include: HAProxy; Nginx; Chef; Git; Docker; Vagrant; Elasticsearch
