The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) is the flagship unit for applied social science research at UQ and one of the largest social science research institutes in Australia. About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of the position will be to undertake team-based research in a high achieving, multidisciplinary and collaboration focused environment at the Institute for Social Science Research. Activities may include the collection, management, analyses of qualitative and quantitative data, preparation of reports and academic papers, and under supervision, day-to-day management of research partnerships between ISSR and industry partners.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;
  • Undertake data collection for research projects;
  • Analyse research data, including qualitative and quantitative data;
  • Assist in preparation of research proposals, contract grant applications and tenders;
  • Contribute to supervision of research assistants, summer and winter scholars and RHD students;
  • Perform a range of administrative functions in ISSR, as required.

This position is located at our Long Pocket Campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

With a high level of personal integrity and the ability to work independently, you will have experience with the preparation and presentation of reports and be able to manage complex priorities. You will also have the following skillset:
  • PhD in a relevant field of social science or a cognate discipline with a component of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and data management;
  • Research experience across one or more of the following areas: education, schools, employment, families, parental engagement, child wellbeing, social policy and social disadvantage;
  • Research experience with both quantitative and qualitative statistical software, such as Stata and NVivo;
  • Experience in undertaking mixed method research;
  • Ability to build research expertise over time.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 3 years, at Academic level A.

The full-time salary will be in the range $ $67,542.89 - $90,982.26, plus super of up to 17%.
