Job Summary

The Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) is Europe's largest academic-based group delivering railway science and education. With over 130 academics, researchers and professional support staff, BCRRE provides world class research and thought leadership within railways, and offers an expanding portfolio of high-quality education programmes.

BCRRE is lead partner in the newly-launched £92m UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN) and the University of Birmingham will also be home to one of UKRRIN's four Centres of Excellence, the Centre of Excellence in Digital Systems (CEDS). BCRRE is appointing talented individuals to attract, propose, win and deliver projects which will realise the rail industry's ambitions in innovation with multiple academic and industrial partners. Academic research projects typically range from Technology Readiness Level 1 to 5 and the university is investing in expert staff to work with industrial collaborators on higher TRL projects. Activities will be focussed on one of the CEDS themes and the Industrial Fellow will provide expert advice, support and resource to bridge the technology transfer gap. Experience in applying for and securing funding, together with experience of carrying out industry-focussed research and development in topics including sensors, sensing technologies, condition monitoring, signal processing, embedded systems and electronic design, are essential for this role.
