Job Details

Department of Biomedicine (DBM), Myeloid Malignancies Lab

The lab of Prof. Dr. med. et phil. nat. S. Meyer focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment options of myeloproliferative neoplasms, which are hematologic malignancies driven by the JAK2 oncogene. Current therapies in the clinic are unable to eradicate cancer cell and may evoke resistance to therapy. We are studying the new type II JAK2 inhibitors that show a curative potential. As resistance development is a major challenge for most anti-cancer drugs, we investigate whether and how these new drugs can induce therapeutic resistance and how such resistance can be overcome.

Your position

We are looking for a master student to support the JAK2 inhibitor resistance project. Preferential start will be October 2019 or as agreed. The position includes 10 working hours per week and is limited to 6 months. Working hours can be planned flexible upon agreement with the supervisor. The main task will be to assist a postdoc researcher in laboratory work with e.g. cell culture, genotyping, proliferation, apoptosis or signaling assays. Salary is 1213.85 CHF per month.

Your profile

Applicants have to be enrolled at the University of Basel (biology or medicine) and preferentially hold a BSc in molecular life sciences. Significant working experience in a research laboratory with experience in cell culture, Western blot or flow cytometry is a plus.
