Lecturer in German Studies

Applications are invited for the above fixed-term full time post in the School of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics.

Duties will include German language teaching at all levels of undergraduate study, the design of and contribution towards cultural, historical or socio-political modules, and the provision of pastoral and administrative support within the German Section and the School.

Candidates should have first language or near-first language competence in spoken and written German (they should also be thoroughly competent in English).

Candidates should possess a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area and also have completed, or be in the final stages of completing, a doctorate in any area of German Studies and should have previous experience of teaching the German language and modules on the culture of German-speaking countries. Preference may be given to candidates with expertise in Translation Studies.

The Department is looking to appoint candidates to a Teaching and Scholarship contract.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence on 1 September 2019, the post is available until 31 May 2020.
