Job Details
The Atmospheric Science group (Prof. Markus Kalberer) at the University of Basel, Switzerland, is looking for an advanced postdoctoral researcher. Our research focuses on chemical and physical processes in the atmosphere to elucidate the formation, aging and toxicity of atmospheric aerosol particles. The development of new analytical-chemical methods and instruments to characterize organic aerosols is a main focus of our work. The composition of organic aerosols is poorly understood, mainly because of the highly complex compounds mixtures present in atmospheric aerosols. Ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry techniques allow characterising these complex mixtures on a molecular level, giving unprecedented insights into particle sources and aging.
Your position
The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects, develop independent projects and will contribute to supervising undergraduate and PhD students and to undergraduate teaching.
Specific tasks include operating an HPLC-ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometer (Orbitrap) mainly for organic aerosol analysis from lab and field experiments, advise and train other group members in the use of the instrument and contribute to other interdisciplinary project with a focus of Orbitrap analyses.
Your profile
We are looking for a dynamic, reliable and highly motivated candidate with a PhD in chemistry, environmental sciences or related disciplines with a strong interest and experience in mass spectrometry. English language skills (written and oral) are essential.
We offer you
The position will initially be for 2 years with the option of extension, depending on the performance of the candidate. Salary and social benefits are provided according to University of Basel rules.
The position will remain open until filled, with a first evaluation of applications scheduled for 31 July 2019. Further information on the position can be obtained from Prof. Markus Kalberer.
