SQRH is a University Department of Rural Health that supports nursing, midwifery, allied health students and health professionals to develop a high quality and highly skilled workforce across regional, rural and remote Southern Queensland.

SQRH is a joint initiative of
  • UQ ,
  • University of Southern Queensland (USQ)
  • Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service (DDHHS)
  • and South West Hospital and Health Service (SWHHS)

SQRH is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health as a University Department of Rural Health under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program (RHMTP). Additionally SQRH is funded to engage with the local communities to support the delivery of training to students, maintain and progress an evidence base and the rural health research agenda, support improvements in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and provide regional leadership in developing innovative training solutions to address rural workforce recruitment retention.

About This Opportunity

A newly created opportunity exists for a Research Assistant to assist with and engage in research that aims to improve the health of rural communities and advance rural health workforce training, knowledge and outcomes and rural health services.

Day to day, you will support the research initiatives of SQRH by assisting with:
  • Systematic literature reviews;
  • Preparing ethics applications;
  • Collecting, recording, analysing and reporting research data; and
  • Providing administrative assistance with the development of research resources and activities.

This position is located in Toowoomba, however travel to other sites in the Darling Downs, South West Queensland, and the University of Queensland campuses may be required.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate:
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree (or higher).
  • At least 2 years relevant research experience in public health (or a health-related field).
  • Demonstrated experience in performing systematic literature reviews.
  • Working knowledge of study methodology (quantitative or qualitative research or mixed methods research), ethics submissions, data collection, and data entry, analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of research codes of practice, including the NHMRC ethics framework and the workings of university or local Health District ethics committees.
  • Excellent academic writing skills, with the ability to communicate clear and accurate research findings.
  • Skills in data analysis, with effective analytical and interpretive skills.

In addition, the following are conditions of employment for this position:
  • You will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
  • You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.
  • You must hold a current unrestricted driver's license.

What We Can Offer

This is a part-time role (36.25 per fortnight), fixed term position until 31 December 2020 at HEW level 6

The remuneration package will be in the range $77,400.25 to $83,267.08 p.a. pro rata, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17.0% (total package will be in the range $90,558.29 to $97,422.48 p.a. pro rata) The University of Queensland also offers other competitive options including salary sacrificing, leave packaging and discounted private health insurance as well as many other benefits
