The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES)
This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus , renowned as one of Australia's most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane's city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment - you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.
For US applicants, please note that Australian Universities use British terminology, as such a Lecturer (Level B) position is equivalent to that of an Assistant Professor position in the US.
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) is part of the UQ Faculty of Science and currently has 104 academic staff, and 31 professional and technical staff and over 1,120 equivalent full-time students.
The School's extensive teaching and research activities span the fields of geology, human and physical geography, environmental science and management, biodiversity conservation, geospatial science and remote sensing, mineral resources, palaeontology, geophysics, occupational health and safety sciences, and urban and regional planning. SEES teaches into a diverse range of programs for undergraduate, honours and postgraduate coursework students, and higher degree by research programs.
The School has a vibrant, multidisciplinary research profile and enjoys consistent success in securing nationally competitive grants, industry funding, publishing numerous papers in high-quality international journals as well as having an important influence in areas related to government policy and industry practice.

About This Opportunity
The School is seeking to engage, a lecturer, in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and further development of the School's planning courses and programs, as well as performing research, administrative and other activities associated with the School and its strategic research directions.
Our Ideal Candidate
Applicants should possess a PhD in urban planning or a closely related discipline and have demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of planning and contemporary planning issues, together with a comprehensive understanding of planning in an urban context. Applicants with a focus on one or more of the following areas: planning theory, urban governance, housing, transport, environmental, health, strategic urban planning are encouraged to apply. The ability to work collaboratively and liaise with external agencies to develop cooperative research initiatives is also important. Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia or a similar international professional institute is also desirable.

What We Can Offer
This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic level B.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $95,771 - $113,728, plus super of up to 17%.

Please note that Panel Interviews have been scheduled for the week commencing 14 October 2019 at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus.
As part of the Selection Process, applicants shortlisted for interview will be required to present a research seminar and mock lecture to members of the school community prior to their scheduled interview. Research seminars and lecture topics will be provided with adequate notice to shortlisted candidates.
