Executive Director (CEO) of the Collaborative Lab InnovPlantProtect - Associação

Main responsibilities and obligations

The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors of InnovPlantProtect and has the responsibilities of:
  • Ensuring the structuring of InnovPlantProtect;
  • Scientific coordination of the activities of InnovPlantProtect;
  • Appointing, after hearing the Board of Directors, the Department Directors;
  • Proposing to the Board of Directors and implementing, after approval by the General Assembly, the annual plan of activities, including its budget;
  • Responding to the Board of Directors on any and all matters raised by it;
  • Developing the articulation of InnovPlantProtect with national and foreign scientific and technological partners;
  • Promoting and coordinating the preparation, presentation and implementation of strategic research and development projects to achieve the objectives of the Association;
  • Appointing, after hearing the Board of Directors, the Department Directors;
  • Ensuring the creation of innovation and the production of intellectual property, and promoting its exploitation.

Specific requirements
  • Senior researcher with post-Doc experience;
  • Management and leadership experience;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in molecular biology / plant biotechnology;
  • Scientific recognition proven by high h-index (ISI Web of Science);
  • Proven experience in the management of national and international projects of scientific and technological nature;
  • Knowledge of the Portuguese agricultural reality and network of business collaborations.
  • Scientific partnerships at national and international level;
  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences;
  • Fluency in the use of Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.

InnovPlantProtect is a private non-profit association

InnovPlantProtect aims to create innovation for the protection of crops, seeds and post-harvest products, in particular through:
  • Development of new technologies and knowledge, as well as the improvement of previously developed technologies, to protect crops, seeds and post-harvest products, as well as their intellectual protection and availability;
  • Development of applied scientific research to introduce the developed technologies in the market, and to develop processes and products;
  • Provide technical support to companies and entities, public or private, assisting them in the introduction of biotechnological strategies, methods and processes, and in the orientation and implementation of industrial research and development, directed towards the protection of crops, seeds and post-harvest products;
  • Collaboration with public or private institutions, national or foreign in their areas of activity.


The place of work will be the headquarters of InnovPlantProtect, at the INIAV Elvas pole, in the former National Plant Breeding Station (Elvas, Portugal).

Salary and contract

A full-time contract will be offered, starting before January 1st, 2020. The contract will last for 3 years, being renewed annually, and with a trial period of 6 months. All the activities to be developed will be subject to confidentiality clauses.

The maximum gross value of the remuneration will be in between 60000 and 80000 euros per year, depending on experience
