Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor in the African Languages Studies in the School of Languages & Literatures (Three-Year Contract)

Requirements:

The successful candidate must be in possession of a PhD degree in African Language Studies, Literature or related discipline with experience in teaching and researching in these disciplinary areas: IsiXhosa Literature and IsiXhosa Second Language Teaching.

Knowledge and experience of working with and teaching in isiXhosa is essential. The candidate needs to have experience of successful curriculum design and an ability to teach in a variety of settings which include small and big groups.

In line with legislation governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.

Remuneration

Professor:

Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R732, 743 per annum

Approximate cost to company: R937, 650 per annum

Associate Professor:

Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R623, 306 per annum

Approximate cost to company: R802, 254 per annum

Senior Lecturer:

Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R523, 726 per annum

Approximate cost to company: R679, 055 per annum
