Job Details

Project description:

The main goal of the project is to build a number of optoelectronic devices for noninvasive visualization of biological objects with unprecedented image quality and sensitivity with high temporal resolution. The newly developed technological solutions will include: microscope with fluorescence-free interferometric detection of excited nanoparticles in living cells, high depth-of-focus optical coherence microscope, high spatial and temporal resolution optical coherence microscope with aberration correction and speckle field suppression. All the systems will be equipped with dedicated electronics and software for synchronization, detection and data analysis.

Key responsibilities include:
  1. Commitment to realization of the Project goals.
  2. Development of instrumentation for ultrafast biomedical imaging including hardware (optics and electronics), data acquisition software and dedicated signal and image processing procedures.
  3. Conducting experiments in optical and biological laboratories as well as in medical clinics.
  4. Dissemination of Project results.
  5. Preparation of technical documentation.

The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions set out in Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on higher education and science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668) and the following qualification criteria:
  1. PhD degree in the fields of physics / optics / electronics / informatics / mathematics or similar.
  2. Strong record of scientific and/or industrial (R&D) outcome in the field of biomedical optical imaging.
  3. Strong record of scientific and/or industrial cooperation with national and international partners.
  4. Participation in funded scientific projects in the field of biomedical imaging (preferably in cooperation with industrial partners).
  5. Strong experience in design and construction of imaging systems including bulk optics, fiber optics, opto-mechanics, optoelectronics, coherent and partially coherent light sources, light detection systems.
  6. Strong experience with various forms of optical coherence tomography (spectral, swept source, full-field, line-field, etc.) and/or scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO) techniques and associated techniques for imaging systems control and data acquisition.
  7. Strong experience with systems for wavefront sensing and manipulation for optical imaging (preferably adaptive optics in biomedical imaging).
  8. Good knowledge of optics design software (Zemax preferred, other acceptable).
  9. Experience in C++/CLI/C# programming.
  10. Experience in Matlab and/or Python programming.
  11. Experience in GPU and/or FPGA programming.
  12. Strong skills in LabVIEW programming.
  13. Very good communication level in English (oral and written) and good presentation skills.
  14. High motivation and enthusiasm for scientific activity in a multidisciplinary team.
  15. Willingness to apply for funding.

Additionally, the following will be strongly advantageous:
  1. Being a good team player.
  2. Being a self-motivated and goal-oriented researcher.

We offer:
  1. Opportunity to train and develop in a rapidly developing field of biomedical imaging.
  2. Access to well-equipped biomedical imaging facilities in one of the best physics departments in Poland.
  3. Participation in scientific or skills courses, conferences and R&D trainings.
  4. Flexible work time in friendly environment.
