The Capital Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely accounting of all of the University's capital assets (£1 billion) and annual capital spend (c£100m) in line with the University's Accounting Policies and Accounting Standards. They will ensure that there are robust controls in place over capital balances in the Balance Sheet to ensure that integrity of those figures. The Capital Accountant is responsible for managing the annual asset revaluation exercise.

The post holder is also responsible for preparing financial appraisals for proposed capital projects and maintaining the financial appraisals throughout the life of the project in order to monitor performance. They will be responsible for preparing the financial aspects of post project appraisals undertaken.

The Capital Accountant will maintain the 10 year Capital Programme and will be responsible for collating the information required to produce accurate and timely cash flow forecasts for all of the University's capital activity.

The post holder will be responsible for the preparation, monitoring and reporting of annual capital budgets for all areas of capital expenditure.

We are looking for an experienced, qualified accountant, with an aptitude for working with finance and non-finance specialists, preferably gained in a large and complex organisation. They should be an excellent communicator, with strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills. They will need to manage a busy workload to proactively improve systems / processes whilst still producing accurate and reliable reporting.
