LECTURER: EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Offering education programmes in the B.Ed., Hons and PGCE programme focusing on, but not limited to, the field of Educational and Professional Studies;
  • Teaching in a hybrid/blended manner;
  • Continuous curriculum development and transformation creating innovative assessment strategies;
  • Co-ordinating and administering modules with large numbers of students;
  • Providing postgraduate supervision;
  • Offering teaching methodology in the field of specialisation;
  • Assisting with the assessment of teaching practice;
  • Conducting research in the focus areas of the Department.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's degree in Education;
  • Qualified to teach a FET subject;
  • Five years' teaching experience at school or tertiary levels;
  • Experience in programme/module development and co-ordination;
  • Evidence of research activeness particularly in terms of research outputs;
  • Registration with SACE.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Proven ability to deliver online hybrid/blended learning;
  • Ability to engage in teaching and learning in a higher education environment;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • ICT literate and proficient;
  • Thorough understanding of CAPS and how it is implemented in education;
  • Ability to initiate and supervise research at postgraduate level;
  • Ability to work effectively in a community of scholars;
  • Value-based and value-driven person with the ability to set professional example in a transformative context.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • The ability to operate in a range of South African languages.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
