Overview
We are seeking a Sr. Physicist to support our Navy DoD customer in research, development, testing, evaluation, and engineering analysis at our Colorado Springs, CO office.

For more than 60 years, Peraton has supported our Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) customer by performing research, development, analysis, modeling and simulation, and testing to assess weapon system performance and qualify weapon systems for normal and hostile environments. We provide support in the areas of programmatic and systems engineering, technical engineering, scientific analysis, and operational systems support for Navy SSP's strategic reentry systems. We utilize both COTS and in-house developed software to deliver analysis results and software models of reentry systems and weapons effects to Navy SSP or their designee.

Responsibilities
What you will do:

You will perform scientific analysis and computational modeling to evaluate intrinsic, normal, and hostile radiation environments and their effect on electrical and mechanical components, as well as on personnel. You will perform a wide range of tasks spanning radiation transport calculations, Hardening and Vulnerability (H&V) calculations, Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) calculations, hostile nuclear environment definition, and planning and assessment of radiation/electrical/mechanical testing. You will use scientific and engineering simulation software, in particular radiation transport and finite element analysis solvers (e.g. MCNP, Attila, ABAQUS, Nastran, LS-Dyna, etc.)

As a senior researcher, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading a team involved in the completion of hostile and normal environment studies of reentry systems and personnel safety
  • Performing radiation transport calculations of free-field and internal dose levels in Navy system components
  • Comparing and correlating radiation modeling results with experimental data
  • Performing verification & validation (IV&V) of simulation models and results
  • Assisting in test planning and execution at radiation, electrical, and mechanical above ground test facilities
  • Working with software engineers to implement physics-based analysis models into maintainable software programs
  • Assisting the customer in system assessment and qualification of current Navy systems and the planning and requirements definition of future systems
  • Developing technical documentation and briefings.
  • Developing technical reports capturing assumptions, inputs, outputs, and assessments
  • Developing PowerPoint presentations
  • Interfacing directly with the customer
  • Traveling for meetings and customer interactions


Qualifications
You would be a great fit if you have...
  • A minimum of a BS Degree in Physics or Nuclear Engineering with 8+ years of experience; a MS with 6+ years of experience, or a PhD with 3+ years of experience. An advanced degree (PhD) is preferred, and you will be given preference if you have obtained an advanced degree.
  • Experience in experimental design and execution or modeling
  • Worked on a team of highly-skilled engineers and scientists
  • Experience in writing reports or articles
  • Presented results to technical SMEs and various levels of management
  • An active and current Top Secret security clearance, which requires a US citizen.
It would be even better if you...
  • Have a PhD in Physics or Nuclear Engineering
  • Have radiation transport experience (neutron, gamma, x-ray)
  • Are able to create unique code-to-code interfaces along with post-processing routines for model response analyses
  • Have experience with Industry leading verification and validation practices, model uncertainty quantification, industry standard design of experiment processes, and application of statistical analysis of experimental data
  • Have utilized any of the following technologies: (MCNP, Attila, Matlab, Python, Fortan, C++, PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, Linux, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel)
  • Possess knowledge of object-oriented design
  • Have experience with Defense asset Life Extension Programs
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Are able to work independently or on a team, and able to take initiative and manage detailed tasks
SECURITY CLEARANCE
This position requires the candidate to already have an active and current Top Secret security clearance and to maintain that security clearance.
