The UQ's School of Biomedical Sciences is a distinguished centre for teaching and research in the academic disciplines of Anatomy, Developmental Biology, Physiology, and Pharmacology. The School has more than 40 full-time research and teaching staff and is one of the largest Schools of its type in Australia. It has links to other prestigious research centres on the St Lucia and hospital campuses, which include the Translational Research Institute and Princess Alexandra Hospital, the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), The Institute of Molecular Bioscience (IMB) and The Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN).

In addition to its graduate research programs, the School teaches undergraduate students in Science, Medicine, and Health Sciences.

The Translational Research Institute (TRI), based in Brisbane, is a leading Australian innovation and translation facility. It is home to a range of cutting edge technology developments including interventions to prevent and treat human disease and provide diagnosis of early treatable disease. Situated on the Princess Alexandra Hospital Campus TRI houses up to 750 leading researchers and interfaces with the clinicians throughout Australia. TRI is charged with interfacing scientific development with the commercial sector ensuring that innovation is moved rapidly to improve patient outcomes. To this end TRI is at the interface of science, medicine and industry.

About This Opportunity

This role presents the opportunity to work alongside researchers at University of Queensland (UQ), Translational Research Institute (TRI), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and hospital based clinicians and radiologists. The appointee will be a key part of a multi-disciplinary team committed to translating the understanding of cellular, biochemical and metabolic changes in kidney cancer. The focus being to identify and diagnose deregulation, damage and disease processes and generate new diagnostic tools. While the position will be based at TRI and the Princess Alexandra Hospital, its reporting employer will be UQ. Some travel between UQ sites may be required.

Our Ideal Candidate

The successful appointee will have a PhD in biomedical science, engineering or equivalent postdoctoral experience. In addition, the person will have experience in biophysics, physical chemistry or engineering with strong computational skills. Working knowledge of MR technology, biochemistry of cell metabolism and statistics are essential, as well as exceptional attention to detail, proven ability to produce quality work and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Vaccinations and Immunisation

It is a condition of employment for this role that, if you are required now or in the future, to work or interact in a Queensland Health clinical facility, or in an equivalent clinical health facility, or in a health care role, or will be required to perform work tasks that put you at risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable disease, you are required to be immunised against, and remain immunised against, certain vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) in accordance with the University's Vaccinations and Immunisation Guidelines (PPL 2.60.08). The employee is required to provide evidence of immunisation against VPDs.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position until 31 December 2020 at Academic level A. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $67,542 - $90,982 plus super of up to 17%.
