MARKETING MANAGER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Planning, developing and implementing TuksSport marketing, communication, public relations strategies and activities, both externally and internally, in line with the University's policies and guidelines;
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of collateral materials and providing services required by the Department and the clubs in the areas of marketing, communication and public relations;
  • Directing the efforts of the marketing, communication and public relations staff;
  • Ensuring that Varsity Cup and Sport competitions are effectively advertised and profiled to all students and staff of the University, and
  • Co-ordinating all programmes and activities at strategic and tactical level with the other functions of TuksSport.
  • Propose and manage TuksSport's marketing budget
  • Identify branding/marketing opportunities for TuksSport to build on current brand image


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Degree in Marketing and Communication, Public Relations, Sport Management or any related field;
  • At least three to five years' experience in a sport environment;
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets;
  • Experience working with online, social and electronic media;
  • Experience in overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications;
  • Demonstrating successful experience in writing press releases, presenting of presentations and negotiating with media;


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate verbal and written language and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing and communication and public relations activities;
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organisational and personal sales skills;
  • Training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel;
  • Computer literacy in word processing, database management and page layout;
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time;
  • Able to ensure compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Postgraduate degree in Marketing and Communication, Public Relations, Sport Management or any related field;
  • Sport event management experience.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
