Job Details
The University of Bristol has introduced whole-institution approach to pastoral care and support for its students. This includes major new investments in support for student wellbeing in academic schools and central services, such as our specialist Students' Health and Counselling Services. The University has also created a sector-leading support model for students living in University residences in response to increasing student numbers, greater diversity in the student body, and more complex student wellbeing issues. The University currently provides 6,800 student bed spaces across the city and this figure is set to rise significantly over the coming 3-5 years.

There are three Student Residential Villages staffed by teams of Residential Life Advisers with responsibility for providing around the clock support for inclusive community building, events and activities, as well as proactively supporting and responding to concerns about student wellbeing. Advisers are trained extensively across a range of areas, including mental health. Advisers line manage teams of Chief and Senior Residents, including planning (along with the Chief Resident) and delivery of shift rotas, coordination of team duties, undertaking staff performance reviews, and chairing regular team meetings.
With previous experience and qualifications in the provision of mental health and wellbeing support, you will also have experience of working with students or young people in an advisory and support capacity, and a good understanding of student wellbeing related issues. Proven experience of working as part of a team to deliver a high-quality service is essential, as is the ability to independently solve problems within a complex organisational and regulatory environment. Experience of using a wide range of IT applications, including the MS Office Suite, social media, and internal databases/systems is also required.
