Job Details

Continuing on the success of the NIHR-Clinical Lectureship scheme, we invite applications for a post in general and colorectal surgery. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a colorectal surgical trainee (ST3 or above) with outstanding potential, to develop a successful career in colorectal cancer research within a thriving and supportive environment. Clinical training will be based within University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust Division of Surgery, Colorectal Surgery team and the specialist training programme in General Surgery within the Severn Deanery. The post holder will also be a member of the Bristol Centre for Surgical Research (led by Professor Jane Blazeby). Research opportunities and environments are available in the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Life Sciences within the University of Bristol.

The Academic Clinical Lectureship is designed to provide postdoctoral support for a talented clinical academic who will have completed a higher degree (PhD) prior to starting the post. It provides 50% salary support to allow the clinician to set aside time to develop their academic skills with the remaining 50% funding provided for clinical training.

The Lectureship is available for a maximum of four years starting on or after 1st October 2019 and should enable the completion of clinical training, as well as the attainment of further support for research (for example intermediate or postdoctoral fellowship or personal grants) and experience in teaching. The research interests of applicants should complement existing strengths of the Colorectal Tumour Biology Group in the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Professor Ann Williams ( ann.c.willilams@bristol.ac.uk ) for an informal discussion of the post including how the candidate's particular research direction can be supported.

The closing date for applications is 11:59pm on Thursday 12th September 2019. The interview date is to be confirmed.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
