We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow who is a nurse or allied healthcare professional. You will help contribute to our well-developed research portfolio, and to the delivery of our valued MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Programme.

About the School of Health Sciences

Our School of Health Sciences is situated within the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences. We have a strong record of providing an excellent research environment and delivering research with national and international impact. There is a collegiate culture across healthcare professions and integration with other disciplines within the university. We were ranked joint 1st for Nursing in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework assessment.

The Job

Our vision is to maintain and further develop our role as a market leading provider of Advanced Clinical Practice education in the UK, as well as strengthening our research expertise and engagement in this field. The role will help us to further develop multi-professional healthcare research and education at the University of Southampton, which will influence people around the world. You will work with a dedicated team of experienced academics and academic practitioners, whilst developing your own research portfolio in the field of Advanced Clinical Practice.

In order to balance the cross section of skills within the team we require a postholder with experience as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner and/or Advanced Clinical Practice educator in the field of critical, high dependency and/or emergency care. Associate membership of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, or credentialing with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine as an Advanced Emergency Care Practitioner is desirable.

Daily activities include:
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice programme, including module leadership, session delivery, marking and practice-based assessments.
  • Assisting in the development of the School's research portfolio as part of a research group
  • Acting as a personal academic tutor to students
  • Liaising with programme managers and senior leaders to deliver the School's research and education strategy
  • Liaising with clinical practice partners to maintain and develop effective partnership working.


It is essential that candidates are active on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register.

This is a full-time permanent post, and your job title and salary will be decided upon appointment, dependent on experience.

A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service clearance at Standard level is required.
