Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR)

The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) undertakes solution focused research addressing societal challenges and is a national leader in advanced interdisciplinary social science and evidence-based policy research. ISSR researchers work with diverse academic disciplines and collaborate with government agencies and the private and not-for profit sectors to address key Australian and international public policy questions that span the life course and require investigation of areas such as social inequality and wellbeing, education, employment, housing, social services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander environments research and international development. The Institute leads advances in social science and evaluation methodology, and is developing new capabilities in health and social data science.

About This Opportunity

As part of the ISSR team, you will contribute to health and future solution-focused, social science research to improve health and wellbeing, in particular among the most disadvantaged in our society.

You will work amongst a multidisciplinary team and often in collaboration with non-university stakeholders. You will apply advanced research methods skills in one or more of the following areas: qualitative social science; intervention development and policy or program evaluation; and/or co-design and community participative research.

The appointment will be made at either level A or level B, depending on experience and achievements. The level of responsibilities assigned to the appointees will reflect the level of appointment on this salary scale. Please see attached PD for further clarification.

Our Ideal Candidate

You must hold or be nearing completion of a PhD in a field applicable to addressing key social problems. With strong attention to detail, you will be able to manage competing priorities and multiple projects concurrently. You will have strong written and oral communication skills, coupled with well-developed presentation skills.

You will also have high quality research methods for application in empirical social science in one or more of the following areas: qualitative social science; intervention development and policy or program evaluation; and/or co-design and community participative research.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time fixed term appointment at Academic Level A or B.

The remuneration for Academic Level A will be in the range of $67,542 - $90,982 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.

The remuneration for Academic Level B will be in the range of $95,771 - $113,728 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
