Associate Professor or Professor of Statistics / Analytics

AUT's Department of Mathematical Sciences (part of the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences ) has a strong statistical analytics focus with strong industry linkage. Our staff routinely publish in top-ranked international journals and their research regularly informs government policy. We have growing numbers of PhD, Masters and Honours students and one of the largest Mathematical Sciences postgraduate programmes within New Zealand - enjoying particularly outstanding growth in our Master of Analytics programme, launched in 2015.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a passionate and committed Associate Professor or Professor to make outstanding contributions within one or more areas in the statistical sciences such as (but not limited to) Bayesian statistics, statistical data analysis and modelling, multivariate analysis, time-series and forecasting, or stochastic operations research.

You will directly impact the department's teaching environment along with its research direction and project activities with industrial partners. You will enjoy building links with industry and conduct high-quality scholarly research to solve industrial problems, whilst supervising postgraduate students and support the development of their research. You will also provide academic leadership to the department's Statistics/Analytics team and programmes (including the Master of Analytics and our analytics research team).

Applications and Key Selection Criteria

We welcome applications from suitably qualified senior academics and request they submit a cover letter, full CV (including a full list of publications and contact details of at least two referees) plus a statement addressing the following key selection criteria:

1. PhD in a statistical or data analytics related field
2. Sustained outstanding contribution and impact in research and scholarship at a national and/or international level within one or more areas in the statistical sciences such as (but not limited to) Bayesian statistics, statistical data analysis and modelling, multivariate analysis, time-series and forecasting, or stochastic operations research
3. Sustained outstanding contribution and effectiveness in teaching, assessment and curriculum design with evidence of a scholarly approach to teaching, including the supervision of postgraduate students to completion
4. Sustained outstanding contribution and impact in service both to your university and the external community
5. A track record of successful research grant applications and experience with industrial and/or business applications
6. Sustained outstanding academic leadership and service (required to be appointed to the professoriate)
7. Experience in establishing effective and enduring relationships with business, government, professional groups and/or the wider community
