Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is vibrant, achievement-oriented and a rewarding place to work. As one of the world's top 30 millennial universities and New Zealand's newest, it offers a stimulating teaching and research environment with strong connections to government, business and industry. AUT has over 29,000 students and 2,500 staff across our three teaching campuses and is located in New Zealand's largest city, Auckland - consistently ranked as one of the world's most liveable cities.

Based in AUT's city campus, our Psychology team (within AUT's School of Social Sciences and Public Policy ) focuses on the scientific study of human behaviour, providing a much-needed perspective on what humans need to develop and thrive. Our team teach psychology within the context of our society; the places where we live and work. With the continued increase in students in our BA Psychology major and the 2018 introduction of a new post-graduate programme in social and developmental psychology, Psychology at AUT is a growing and vibrant discipline and this is an exciting time for the department. We are also pleased to have welcomed a new Head of School, who is additionally the Co-Director of the Centre for Social Data Analytics (CSDA) (which has recently transferred to the school).

The Role

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer of Psychology to develop their career in teaching, research and service. We are ideally seeking research interests in social and/or developmental psychology. The appointee will ideally also be quantitative-focussed, as the small team of Psychology lecturers you will join work within a quantitative-focussed environment. Previous lecturing experience is desirable.

You will be expected to publish actively in your specialised field; research is well supported within the School. It is also expected that over time the successful candidate will seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities. Interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities also exist across the School.

You'll teach across psychology programmes as agreed with the Programme Leader. You may also assume future responsibility for the co-ordination and delivery of psychology papers, as well as be offered the opportunity to develop your own papers. We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised.

A collaborative, open and engaging attitude that is flexible to School requirements is essential. You'll join a small but focussed, open and highly collaborative group that supports the growth of its people. There is genuinely positive energy within the Psychology Programme and we offer an excellent research environment, with research support. The School also offers a variety of contestable research funds.
