Hospitality and Accommodation Services - Costa Coffee

Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £16,848, with potential progression once in post to £18,840

Band 200

Part Time - 18 hours per week over 32 weeks of the year - To cover some evenings, weekends, bank holidays and closed days

Main duties
  1. Undertake basic food and beverage preparation, ensuring that recipe and presentation standards are kept to, following set specifications to ensure a consistent service and quality product.
  2. Greet and serve customers in a professional, responsive courteous, friendly and personable manner, including answering queries and dealing with all situations that arise, to deliver the highest level of customer service.
  3. Operate EPOS terminals and handle cash effectively, including opening and end of day procedures, cashing up and ensuring the security of all monies.
  4. Perform cleaning and sanitising tasks to a high standard, and maintain a high level of work station, dinner area and personal hygiene, to ensure a clean environment.
  5. Conform to Health & Safety, COSHH Regulation and Food Safety Legislation and safe food preparation methods to ensure a high quality food service.
  6. Ensure that all HACCP hygiene and allergen recording systems and food receipt procedures are carried out correctly and in line with procedural guidelines to deliver a safe product to customers.
  7. Ensure a correct standard of stock rotation is followed whilst maintaining adequate stock levels and making sure that food products are used prior to the best before date.
  8. Follow portion guidelines and report all food wastage in the appropriate system, to minimise wastage.
  9. Treats everyone with dignity and respect, supporting equality and valuing diversity.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  1. Experience and knowledge of working in a busy, customer facing role
  2. Experience of working in a catering outlet
  3. Food Safety Certificate Level 2
  4. Commitment to providing a quality service.
  5. Expressed enthusiasm for the role.
  6. Ability to learn and understand how diversity considerations affect own area (e.g. Dietary requirements/dress code).
