Job Details

This post is an excellent opportunity for a talented applied biostatistician to join Population Health Sciences (PHS) at Bristol Medical School and be linked to the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) at the University of Bristol. This post is located on Pathway One - academic roles that combine teaching, research and administrative duties.

You will develop an independent programme of methodological and applied research in collaboration with colleagues in PHS. A particular focus will be on innovative biostatistical approaches to the use of genetic and other omic data to improve causal inference in population-based biomedical research. You will join a diverse group of interdisciplinary researchers who collectively aim to understand the environmental, molecular and genetic basis of health and disease in the population. You will contribute biostatistical and methodological expertise to the design, conduct and analysis of genetic and omic epidemiological studies.

The successful applicant will have a PhD (or equivalent research experience) in biostatistics, statistical genetics or a related quantitative discipline. A track record of research published in high impact journals is essential, and this should include development or evaluation of new methodology. Experience of developing approaches to improve the validity of causal inference in this field is desirable, as is previous success in successful in securing competitively awarded grant funding. We seek a candidate who has demonstrated a trajectory towards research independence.

For informal queries please contact: George Davey Smith ( Julia.mackay@bristol.ac.uk ) or Kate Tilling ( Kate.Tilling@bristol.ac.uk )

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
