Job Details
The Faculty of Science unites the disciplines of agriculture and animals, biological sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, food sciences, geography, marine science, mathematics and physics, planning, the environment and veterinary science.
With strong links between the enabling and applied sciences, UQ researchers and graduates are working on a wide range of ground breaking projects from the molecular characterisation of drug resistant bacteria that affect piglets through to finding better treatments for illness and rehabilitation of the environment.
The units within the Faculty of Science are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work.
About This Opportunity
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technically-orientated support to workshop clients. This will involve such duties as design input, high precision machining, maintenance and prototype assembly work, in order to meet the needs of the academic, undergraduate, research and other associated activities within the Faculty.
This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus , renowned as one of Australia's most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane's city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment - you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.
Our Ideal Candidate
Applicants should possess a degree, diploma or relevant trade qualifications with at least 2 years subsequent relevant experience. You should also have an aptitude for creativity in the design of new equipment for teaching laboratories or research projects; specialist skills in the maintenance and repair of precision equipment and relevant work experience in a laboratory/workshop environment using a diverse range of machinery.
You must have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.

What We Can Offer
This is a full-time, continuing appointment broad-banded at HEW Level 5/6.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $67,608 - $83,267, plus super of up to 17% and recreation leave loading of 17.5%.
