Establishment of the Liveris Academy

Current global challenges require sustained, rapid innovation on a broad scale, and the leadership to ensure implementation to effect societal change. The Andrew N. Liveris Academy for Innovation and Leadership will provide the environment and programs to deliver a pipeline of effective and creative leaders with the capacity to contribute to a sustainable future.

At the heart of the Liveris Academy, is a deep commitment to inclusivity, impact, and courageous leadership. The Academy will identify promising students with leadership potential and a passion for sustainability, teach Liveris Scholars to become agile and courageous leaders, and equip them to discover and implement multidisciplinary solutions that address grand challenges in sustainability.

The Academy will offer a unique student experience including prestigious scholarships, structured leadership training, mentoring by visiting leaders, targeted professional practice placements, and a vibrant Liveris Scholar Alumni Network.

The Academy will be housed in the Andrew N. Liveris Building, an 11-storey, state-of-the-art engineering education and research hub under active construction at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus.

UQ alumnus Andrew Liveris AO and his wife, Paula Liveris, donated $13.5 million to help establish the Liveris Academy in the University's Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology. A recognised global business leader, Andrew is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Dow Chemical Company and Director of DowDuPont, and previously served as Executive Chairman of DowDuPont.

The establishment of the Academy has created a unique leadership opportunity, the inaugural Liveris Academy Director, to teach and develop future generations of leaders, equipping them to discover and implement technology-driven innovations that address grand challenges related to sustainability in a time of dramatic social, technological, economic and environmental change.

About This Opportunity

We are seeking an outstanding Director of the newly created Andrew N. Liveris Academy for Innovation and Leadership. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the Faculty, the Director will lead the Academy to its full potential in developing intellectual, leadership and innovation capacity of UQ students focused on leveraging digital innovation to address global challenges such as clean water, modern energy services, sustainable materials and safe food. The Director will also play a leadership role in navigating the faculty's forays in addressing global technological and emerging economic trends including but not limited to the Internet of Things, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Multisided Platforms.

By driving knowledge leadership at the frontiers of digital innovation, leadership, and sustainability, the Director will ensure Liveris Scholars emerge from the Academy well-equipped to shape and drive transformative innovation toward addressing the world's most significant challenges and opportunities.

The appointee will provide strategy, research and education leadership in the fields of sustainability, digital innovation and leadership, and will be an internationally recognised discipline leader with a well-established track-record of distinguished contributions to these fields.

The Director will work to establish and implement the strategic direction and priorities of the Academy, under the direction of the Faculty Executive Dean, and will work closely with the Academy's Advisory Board

The Director will also be a senior mentor and leader within the University, and will play a visible and active role (both internally and externally) to foster cross-disciplinary links among researchers, postgraduate students, industry, government, and the broader community.

You will work to establish and implement the strategic direction and priorities of the Academy, under the direction of the Faculty Executive Dean, working closely with the Academy's Advisory Board.

You will also be a senior mentor and leader within the University, and will play a visible and active role (both internally and externally) to foster cross-disciplinary links among researchers, postgraduate students, industry, government, and the broader community.

Salary and benefits

This is a full-time, fixed term position for up to five (5) years at Academic Level E. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, including superannuation contributions of 17%.
