Background

To contribute to the Doctorate in Forensic Psychology (ForenPsyD), the CPD ForenPsyD and the Masters of Science in Psychology and Psychological Practice (MSci) within the Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP). To develop and deliver postgraduate modules, deliver workshops on areas of expertise, assess a range of student work, supervise research of postgraduate students, and contribute to the management, leadership and enterprise activities of the school as appropriate.

Main Responsibilities

Teaching and Supervision

• To use a variety of methods in teaching and advising individuals and groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students
• Teach and examine courses at a range of levels
• Plan and review own teaching approaches and acting as a mentor to encourage others to do the same
• Develop programme proposals and make substantial contributions to the design of teaching programmes more widely in the Department or School, as appropriate
• Where appropriate, undertake and develop the full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining
• To facilitate and appraise the development of trainee competence ensuring that it meets the requirements of the relevant professional and regulatory bodies.
• Disseminate appropriate practices through suitable media
• Develop and advise others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.
• Devise & supervise projects, research dissertations and practical work
• Develop and make substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement or similar on own specialism that enhances the student experience or employability and is of manifest benefit to the College and the University

Continuing Professional Development

• Take responsibility for own continuing professional development and scholarly activity, keeping up to date with developments in service delivery and forensic practice in order to inform training initiatives
• Engage with the training programmes and School appraisal and personal development plan process.

Management/Administration

To contribute to School/Centre administration or have a high level of responsibility for others. This may include:

• Contribute to the administration/management of teaching across the Centre/School
• Lead and manage a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process (e.g. new programme or a recruitment drive)
• Advise on personal development of colleagues and students
• Make a major contribution to some administrative activities within the University (e.g. appeals panels, working groups).
• Maintain links with placement providers
• Act as external examiner
• Contribute to recruitment of students/trainees
• Manage enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities that are of manifest benefit to the College and University.
• Develop and make substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, widening participation, schools outreach. This may involve attendance of committees and working groups.

Scope of the Role

The post holder will contribute to the full range of teaching and administration on the Doctorate in Forensic Psychology (ForenPsyD), the CPD ForenPsyD and the Masters of Science in Psychology and Psychological Practice (MSci) and other postgraduate courses delivered by the Centre for Applied Psychology.

Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management, development (including programme/module review) and delivery of teaching and assessment at postgraduate level; (b) research supervision; and (c) enhancement of the student experience or employability. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students, and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.

Teaching focussed role-holders should advance the practice of teaching in their modules within the school, take a role in leading curriculum development, and play an important role in student academic support. They should also deliver excellent teaching that inspires students, and is informed by discipline-based research and current forensic practice.

Management and administration is likely to involve contributions within the Centre for Applied Psychology by, for example, taking on a teaching-related administrative role (e.g. assignment tutor) and can also include contributions at a School level. It may also include making an important contribution to management/leadership (e.g. working groups) within the University. This may include developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, widening participation, schools outreach, or similar activities.

Skills and Experience

• ForenPsyD or ForenClinPsyD or ClinPsyD (with forensic experience) or equivalent qualifications.
• HCPC registration as a Forensic or Clinical Psychologist (latter with forensic experience)
• Extensive teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism.
• Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning.
• Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels.
• Skills and experience in research and research supervision.
• Skills and experience working in a forensic or forensic-clinical setting.

Teaching

• Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes.
• Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching and advising colleagues
• Ability to support the integration of practice based and academic learning.
• Experience and achievement in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity that enhances the student experience or employability

Management/Administration

• Ability to contribute to Centre/School management processes
• Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.

Planning and Organising

• Plan for and set teaching programme objectives over a number of years
• Plan and manage own teaching courses at a range of levels (including design, delivery, assessment) as agreed with the Head of School.
• Organise meetings/conferences/symposia as appropriate
• Contribute to the administration/management of teaching across the School
• Lead/ manage a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process (e.g. new module/programme or a recruitment drive) as appropriate

Decision Making

• Develop learning and teaching approaches, including approach to mentoring
• Develop programme proposals and decide what contributions to make to the design of teaching programmes
• Develop knowledge in specialist area
• Contribute to School/Centre for Applied Psychology management processes as required

Internal/External Relationships

• Contribute to policies and procedures concerning the selection of students under the guidance of the Programme Leads.
• Act as external examiner for other applied courses
• Maintain contact (including membership of) appropriate professional bodies
• Contribute to the development and delivery of high quality forensic psychology and other applied training through attendance at relevant committees and meetings as required.
