Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biochemistry

The laboratory of Protein Chemistry of the Medical School of São Paulo State Federal University (EPM-UNIFESP, at its Department of Biochemistry) offers a (01) postdoc position related to the Thematic Project Fragments Derived from the Structure of Protease Inhibitors with selectivity for inhibition of mammalian and microorganism enzymes and its role as an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antithrombotic and anti- tumor agent: mechanism of action, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Maria Luiza Vilela Oliva.

The candidate will take part in a cell / molecular biology and biochemistry research investigating the action of compounds in tumor and inflammation models in vitro and in vivo. The postdoc must have experience on protein and peptide characterization and purification, aiming at the isolation of samples used in the assays described above. The candidate must be fluent in English and have a PhD in Biological Sciences, with emphasis on Cellular / Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, obtained at no more than 7 years ago.

Skills and experience required for selection

• Protein / peptides characterization and purification by chromatographic techniques FPLC and HPLC (fundamental);
• Experience of cellular behavior by confocal microscopy (desirable);
• Flow cytometry technique (fundamental);
• Manipulation with cell lines and 3D culture (fundamental);
• Experience with real time PCR and western blotting technique (fundamental);
• Knowledge and experience in animal manipulation and experimentation (fundamental);
• Evaluation of leukocyte behavior by intravital microscopy (fundamental);
• Analysis of proinflammatory cytokines and determination of nitric oxide (desirable);
• Experiences in heterologous protein expression (desirable);
• Fluency in English with experience of at least 6 months abroad (fundamental);
• Written and oral communication skills (fundamental).

Duration: initially 24 months, renewable up to 48 months, depending on results obtained and reports delivered every 12 months. The postdoctoral fellowship includes a monthly fee of BRL 7,373.10 and technical research reserve (15% of the annual value of the scholarship, each year).
