Job Details

The ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research (ICTP-SAIFR) announces the opening of two (02) post-doctoral positions with funding from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) to begin in 2020.

These positions will be filled in areas including astrophysics, complex systems with applications to biology, condensed matter theory, cosmology and general relativity, gravitational waves, mathematical physics, theoretical and experimental particle physics, physics of cold atoms, QCD and hadronic physics, quantum information and string theory. In addition to the FAPESP fellowships, postdocs will receive funds from ICTP-SAIFR to invite visiting collaborators and organize activities.

Review of applications will begin in September 2019 and will continue until all positions have been filled. Although there is no strict deadline, applications before December 1st, 2019 are strongly recommended for positions to begin in 2020. Candidates can apply by filling out the online application form at http://www.ictp-saifr.org/postdoctoral .

Postdocs will be expected to collaborate with ICTP-SAIFR associated researchers located at the São Paulo State University's Institute for Theoretical Physics (IFT-UNESP) and nearby universities that include:

Astrophysics / Cosmology / Gravitational Waves: Raul Abramo (IFUSP), Fabio Iocco (ICTP-SAIFR/ IFT-UNESP), Marcos Lima (IFUSP), Rodrigo Nemmen (IAG-USP), Elisabete de Gouveia Dal Pino (IAG-USP), Rafael Porto (ICTP-SAIFR/ IFT-UNESP), Farinaldo Queiroz (ICTP-SAIFR/ IIP-Natal), Rogério Rosenfeld (ICTP-SAIFR/ IFT-UNESP), Riccardo Sturani (ICTP-SAIFR/ IIP-Natal).

Complex Systems with applications to biology: Marcus Aguiar (Unicamp), Hilda Cerdeira (IFT-UNESP), Roberto Kraenkel (IFT-UNESP), Ricardo Martinez-Garcia (ICTP-SAIFR), Paulo Prado (IB-USP).

About the Institution

ICTP-SAIFR is a South American regional center for theoretical physics created through a collaboration of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste (ICTP) with FAPESP and UNESP, and is located at IFT-UNESP campus in the center of São Paulo. ICTP-SAIFR has visitor exchange agreements with CEA-Saclay, CERN, Fermilab, IFT-Madrid, KITP Santa Barbara, Mainz ITP, Nordita, Perimeter and the ICTP in Trieste, and has a well-funded visitor program with frequent seminars, schools and workshops in all areas of theoretical physics.

The opportunities are open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidates will receive a FAPESP's Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
