Senior Research Assistant - Department of Community Health Sciences

The Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems. It comprises of five major operational units: Epidemiology & biostatistics, Health policy & management, Population & reproductive health, Environmental health, and Non-communicable diseases & mental health.

Mobile consulting (mConsulting) is a term used when an individual, with a health need, consults a healthcare provider using mobile communication technology. mConsulting has a global and local potential, given the pressing need for creative, innovative ways to make quality health care available to everyone who needs it, regardless of who they are, where they come from or their ability to pay. In this study, the use of mConsulting and its perceived impact in urban slums, remote rural areas and refugee camps in five LMICs in Africa and Asia will be explored, so that ideas for health policy can be generated, which will help build an evidence base for future research. Working with stakeholders, the study aims to propose an intervention in mConsulting to improve access to healthcare and strengthen health systems for future implementation and evaluation.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• engaging stakeholders through one-on-one and focus group discussions
• building and managing rapport with important leads in the community
• communicating with stakeholders in the community and explaining the scope of the project
• ensuring the availability and functionality of equipment necessary for effective field operations
• preparing and prioritizing field plan according to project deadlines
• sorting and organizing data, both in hard copy and electronic versions.

Requirements

You should have:

• a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Sociology/Community Development/Social Science
• at least one to two years' of working experience
• ability to understand basics of a research project
• good command over written and spoken Urdu and Sindhi
• good interpersonal and team building skills
• ability to document project activities
• ability to use MS Office.
