A postdoctoral researcher position is available in Dr. Binyam Mogessie's lab in the School of Biochemistry, University of Bristol, to study the function of centromeres during the genesis of maternal age-dependent aneuploidy in mammalian oocytes. The position is available for a highly motivated researcher with expertise in vertebrate meiosis, oocyte handling, microinjection and in vitro oocyte maturation. In addition, expertise in biochemical methods including preparation of oocyte extracts, immunoprecipitation assays, chromatography and kinase/phosphatase assays is required. Previous experience in analysis of mass spectrometry data is desirable.

The goal of this project is to understand the contribution of mammalian centromeres to accurate chromosome segregation during oocyte meiosis. The postdoc will perform high-resolution and super-resolution live and immunofluorescence microscopy of centromeres in mammalian oocytes across various age groups and perform quantitative image analysis (e.g. 3D iso-surface reconstruction and tracking of centromeres in long-term live imaging datasets). Previous experience in advanced live imaging is therefore highly desirable.

This project is part of a multi-disciplinary research collaboration funded by a Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) international collaborative grant with partners in France and the USA and will involve continuously working with other researchers in the collaborating labs.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or close to completion) in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a related subject.
