Director, Flow Cytometry Core

With nation-wide responsibility for improving the health and wellbeing of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH’s research Institutes.

The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is recruiting for a Flow Cytometry Core Director.  The successful candidate will serve as the director of the Flow Cytometry Core, a major component of the NHLBI Division of Intramural Research (DIR). The purpose of the NHLBI Flow Cytometry Core is to provide a broad range of cytometric techniques to investigators with diverse research interests within the DIR. These applications include cell sorting, Amnis Imagestream analysis, multiplex bead arrays for soluble cytokines and other factors, Quanterix SiMoA assays, and high dimensional immunophenotyping.  Core cytometric data needs to be collected in a manner consistent with high quality clinical investigations.  We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual who is able to lead a team of scientists to work efficiently in a multidisciplinary environment and to ensure the Flow Cytometry Core remains state of the art.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D., with expertise in hematology and immunology as well as at least 10 years of post-graduate experience in flow cytometry core laboratories.  Additionally, the candidate must have a broad working knowledge of cardiology and pulmonary research applications and be able to assist in design, implementation, and analysis of a wide range of animal and human research projects.  Experience with various brands and types of sorting cytometers is required, as well as experience with analytical methods for DNA analysis, 25 color immunophenotyping, functional assays, imaging cytometry analysis, probability modeling, and analysis of multiplex bead array assays. Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience at the management level of flow cytometry core facilities.  Appointees may be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visa.

Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.

Applicants should submit, as part of the package: a full curriculum vitae; a supplemental narrative statement that addresses their qualifications for the position and a vision for the position (not to exceed two pages), and the names, titles, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of three professional references to be sent to:
