Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are important concepts for nurse scientists to consider in the everyday conduct of their research. Often only discussed within the context of the workforce, DEI have gained considerable attention in the last decade. Because of this increased attention, there is a push to understand DEI within the broader context of research as well.
To this end, many national initiatives have been launched including the National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program. The purpose of the All of Us Research Program is to increase the diversity and inclusion of the participants in all aspects of research, including race and ethnicity, gender identities, socioeconomic status, disability, geography, education, and health status (National Institutes of Health, 2023).
